REVIEW: 2016 Honda CR-V

Drivers in Brockton have many options when shopping for a compact SUV. In fact, it may seem overwhelming given all the choices, but consider that most of these smaller utility vehicles out there are merely imitations of Honda’s juggernaut, the CR-V.

It scores highly where it matters most, and consumers agree, as it out-sells the competition year after year. Here’s our full review of the 2016 Honda CR-V

Safety

Safety organizations love the CR-V, and for good reason. The 2016 CR-V Touring earned the ‡Top Safety Pick+ title from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety after earning perfect scores across the board. To boot, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave it a best possible 5-Star Overall Rating. The CR-V is equipped with a variety of standard safety features, including dual-stage front airbags, side-curtain airbags, rollover sensor, electronic stability and traction control, electronic brake assist, and multi-angle rearview camera. You can also add features such as a collision mitigation braking system and other driver assistance technologies that are part of the Honda Sensing package.

Features

Honda believes that comfort and convenience should be attainable for everyone, so each model of the CR-V has air conditioning, power windows and locks, cruise control, steering wheel-mounted controls, multi-function center console, 4-speaker audio system, USB interface, Smart Key, and Smart Start.

Optional features include speed-sensitive and variable intermittent wipers, fog lights, security system, 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels, power moon roof, and 6-speaker premium audio. Upper trim levels feature leather seating, dual-zone air conditioning, roof rails, auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated mirrors, satellite radio, and a 7-speaker audio system. Finally, the Touring trim has 18-inch alloy wheels, HomeLink wireless control system, power tailgate, driver memory seat, and navigation system.

Interior

The CR-V’s cabin will feel just like home, with high-quality upholstery even on the base model, roomy seating, and a contemporary design. It seats five passengers and is configurable to fit sporting equipment, a week’s worth of groceries, or luggage for the whole family. With the rear seats up, there’s 37.2 cubic feet of space, and when they’re folded the CR-V has nearly 71 cubes of unobstructed space. Plus, easy folding seats and a low cargo floor makes loading items easy enough for the kids to help out.

Engine

Under the hood, the CR-V has a 2.4-liter inline-4 with 185 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque, with better acceleration and performance than past models. The direct-injection engine is connected to a continuously variable transmission, which assists in performance and efficiency. The CR-V gets *26 MPG city and 34 MPG highway for the front-wheel drive, and 25 MPG city and 31 MPG highway for the all-wheel drive model, making it top in its class for fuel economy.
